The Brief
When Ann and Phil decided to branch out from running their pub, they knew exactly what they wanted to do next: share their love of award-winning homemade pies with locally sourced ingredients with the world. Though, when it came to building their brand and getting online, they felt a bit out of their depth. That’s where we came in.
Ann and Phil approached us with a simple request: help them create a logo for their new venture, For The Love Of Pies. As we got to know them and their passion for pie-making, it became clear that this project was about more than just a logo.
With their trust and much creative freedom, we helped turn their vision into something tangible. We started with the brand identity, then moved on to building a website that truly captures the heart of what they do.
Objectives
- Create a stunning logo that represents the business and reflects the personality of the owners.
- Create a brand identity and a website that is easy to navigate, showcases the business values and it's products.
PHASE 1
Logo Design.
Our first task was to create a logo that captured Ann and Phil’s passion for food, especially their delicious pies. After chatting with them about what they envisioned, we learned that the logo needed to feature a pink element (a must-have from Ann) and, of course, showcase their pies.
With that in mind, our team got to work—literally starting at the drawing board. We sketched out different versions of their pies and let our creativity run wild, ultimately coming up with not one but five unique logo designs. When we shared these concepts with Ann and Phil, they loved them all, which made choosing just one quite a challenge!
Throughout the process, we worked closely with Phil and Ann, refining their ideas and making sure the final logo was exactly what they wanted. The design we settled on was a perfect match for their brand. For instance, the love heart in the logo symbolises the friendly, personal touch they bring to their business—something they were keen to highlight. They also wanted their logo to stand out in the market, making it as unique as the flavours of their pies.
This was the start of For The Love Of Pies' brand identity, and it set the tone for everything that followed.
PHASE 2
Brand Identity.
The next step was to take the chosen logo and expand it into a complete brand identity. This meant creating everything from colour palettes and fonts to digital assets like imagery and bespoke icons. We carefully crafted a warm palette of complementary colours to reflect the family-owned nature of their business and the delicious homemade pies they’re known for.
PHASE 3
Website Design.
Our team used the newly designed Wix Studio to build a website that truly showcased Ann and Phil’s award-winning pies. The site needed to be user-friendly, with a menu that displayed their homemade pies along with detailed ingredient information. It was also important to Ann and Phil that their chosen charity—one very close to their hearts—was prominently featured to raise awareness and promote their support. Additionally, they wanted a section where visitors could easily see which markets they would be selling their pies at, with the ability to update this information effortlessly, considering they weren’t particularly tech-savvy.
Beyond these requirements, we identified key opportunities to enhance the user experience. We highlighted essential details such as the locally sourced, homemade, and fresh ingredients using unique icons and clear calls to action in each section. We also made it easy for visitors to visually identify each pie by creating individual icons placed in the pie image.
To keep ongoing costs low, we considered three options for displaying their market locations. The first was a simple section listing dates and places, but this didn’t quite capture the brand’s essence. The second was to create a dedicated events page, though this would have significantly increased ongoing costs. The third and most effective solution was to sync their Google Calendar with the website, allowing market dates to be automatically updated and making it hassle-free for Ann and Phil.
We collaborated closely with Ann and Phil on the website content, providing guidance for each section. This approach encouraged them to think deeply about what each part of the site should convey, resulting in content that truly reflects their brand.
A crucial part of our design was ensuring the website was mobile-friendly and easy to navigate. We optimised the site for search engines, conducted technical SEO, and integrated their social media platforms. Additionally, we created a Google My Business.
“We had no idea how much went into building a website. Right from the start, the team just got our business and knew exactly what needed to be done.”
The Outcome:
Logo: The logo we designed for For The Love Of Pies has been a hit. Its versatility makes it perfect for various uses, from marketing materials and the website to social media and merchandise. We created four versions of the logo to ensure it looks great on any background—whether dark, light or as individual icons.
Ann and Phil have been putting the logo to good use, featuring it on banners for their market stall, eco-friendly packaging, labels, and t-shirts. They’re even planning to wrap their van in the logo soon!
Website: The For The Love Of Pies website is now fully functional and was completed in just three weeks. It includes five main pages: Home, Our Pies, Our Story, Our Calendar, and Contact Us. Designed with a user-friendly interface, the site reflects the same love, care, and attention to detail that Ann and Phil put into their award-winning pies.
